What Is Folklore?: In Conversation with Folklorists Sarah Bryan & Emily Hilliard

September 28, 2021

Congratulations to Lance and April Ledbetter of Dust-to-Digital on their beautiful guest edited issue of The Bitter Southerner, featuring stunning photographs by Margo Rosenbaum & George Mitchell, words by Scott Barretta, William Ferris, Cedric Burnside, Sharde Thomas, a curated playlist, and more.

As part of the series, I had the honor of talking with Lance & April and fellow folklorist Sarah Bryan, all of whose work I've long admired, about the meaning of folklore today and its role in everyday life, the work of public folklorists, and the formation of cultural communities and evolution of tradition in the digital age.
